The City of Casper has contracted TFS to develop a Landowner Forest Stewardship and Wildfire Mitigation Plan for the Hogadon Ski Area which is a City-owned facility. TFS will do forest inventory surveys and develop a holistic resource management plan based on the objectives set forth by the city of Casper. Further, a plan will be developed assessing fuels hazards and recommendations for mitigating against catastrophic fire. Following the development of the management plans, forest land will undergo tree marking and unit layout to identify bark-beetle infested trees and to implement needed fuels reduction treatments.

In April 2010 the Hot Springs County Fire District applied for and received a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security / Homeland Security Grant Program. The County Fire Warden will utilize TFS services to coordinate tasks necessary for the development of the Hot Springs County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).

Bighorn County under the direction of the Bighorn County Fire Warden acquired a two-year grant to address wildfire in the urban interface. The County contracted with TFS to coordinate Firewise efforts in the county (http://www.firewise.org/).  Firewise is a National program providing information aimed at the reduction of hazard and risk of catastrophic wildfire in the urban interface.

The initial effort under the Firewise grant is aimed at addressing the hazardous fuels conditions in the river and creek bottom areas of Bighorn County. An addendum to the existing 2005 Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is being developed through the spring and summer of 2009. An Operating Group has been formed made up of the Fire Chiefs from the communities within the County, the Wyoming State Forestry Division, the Bureau of Land Management, and other interested stakeholders. A CWPP Base Map identifying at-risk communities has been developed in cooperation with the Bighorn County Planner. This map prioritizes communities as low, moderate and high risk from fire.
